t could be the scenario that could be happening this season with a high probability.

Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP and star player of the Philadelphia 76ers, faces a potential obstacle in his quest for back-to-back MVP titles. With the implementation of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) starting with the 2023-2024 season, players must participate in a minimum of 65 games to be eligible for various regular-season awards, including the coveted MVP title.

Unfortunately for Embiid, who has already missed seven games this season, recent reports indicate that he will miss the next game against the Chicago Bulls, adding to his absence.

If the Sixers pivot misses more than 11 games in total, he will be disqualified from the MVP race under new CBA regulations.

Embiid’s bid for the MVP title is strong, with impressive statistics of 35.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. The Sixers, currently third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 22 wins and 9 losses, are counting heavily on Embiid’s outstanding performances.

However, there is a strategic perspective to consider. According to information from a Sixers insider, Embiid’s potential absence from upcoming games could be a deliberate decision to manage his workload and ensure he’s well rested for the playoffs.

By strategically sparing him for the extra 10 games required, the Sixers are looking to optimize Embiid’s performance in crucial playoff match-ups, prioritizing the team’s championship aspirations over individual accolades. This calculated decision underscores the delicate balance teams must strike between individual honors and the team’s long-term success in the NBA.

Already absent from the game against the Chicago Bulls and with reports of a potential extended absence due to an ankle injury, Embiid finds himself in a precarious position. With only 10 games he can afford to miss out of the remaining 50, any unforeseen injury, however minor, could jeopardize his MVP bid. A minor ankle sprain or persistent problem that keeps him off the court for a few weeks could be enough to disqualify him from the MVP race.

As Embiid strives to find a balance between his outstanding performances on the court and managing his injuries, the unpredictable nature of the NBA season introduces an element of uncertainty. History, marked by past injury challenges, does not favor Embiid in his quest for individual accolades, highlighting the delicate balance athletes must strike between pushing their limits and preserving their health for sustained success.
